ECO-Host: Sustainable Packaging & Data Solutions

The Eco-Host: Sustainable Packaging and Data Solutions project aims to reduce the environmental impact of the tourism sector by developing biodegradable packaging for hotel amenities, a significant source of pollution in this industry. Through biotechnological research and development, we are creating innovative packaging solutions from biomass waste, ensuring sustainability throughout the product’s entire lifecycle. In addition, the project seeks to implement data analysis and monitoring tools to help establishments optimize material usage, reduce waste, and reinforce their commitment to a more responsible and eco-friendly tourism model.

In addition to developing biodegradable packaging, the project includes the creation of a comprehensive database designed to track the usage of hotel toiletry packages across Europe. By collecting and analyzing data on consumption patterns and disposal rates, this system provides valuable insights into the environmental impact of single-use amenities, enabling more effective reduction strategies. Through monitoring and reporting, stakeholders gain a clear understanding of their ecological footprint and can make informed decisions to drive long-term sustainability in the tourism sector.

Nanomedicine Projects and Pipeline

Our nanomedicine research encompasses the development of novel nanomaterials, their loading (covalent or supramolecular) with drugs and prodrugs, and their functionalization with imaging agents. These materials are then formulated into nanoparticles and evaluated through in vitro assays. In vivo studies and subsequent clinical investigations are conducted in partnership with collaborators and through subcontracting arrangements, ensuring a comprehensive approach to bringing nanomedicines closer to clinical application.
